Sedona – head north on I-17 to Sedona (2 hours) – a picturesque city surrounded by red-rock spires. At the north end of the city is the stunning Oak Creek Canyon – a breathtaking chasm in the Coconino National Forest. Sedona is known for it’s art and culture scene and shopping, along with a great variety of dining to keep everyone satisfied.

Desert Botanical Garden – head south on 101 and then west on McDowell Road (20 minutes) to explore the Desert Botanical Garden with wildflowers, butterflies, and seasonal exhibits. See what’s blooming and celebrate nature in our unique desert region.

Fountain Hills – head northeast to Fountain Hills, Arizona (40 minutes) – a town surrounded by mountains and sweeping mountain views and desert landscapes. The centerpiece of the town is Fountain Park, with a fountain located in the middle of a 28-acre lake. Host to the Fountain Hills Great Fair every February with hundreds of artists and a variety of music and food.

Globe – head southeast from Scottsdale to the historic city of Globe, Arizona (2 hours).Visit the Salado Indian Ruins at Besh-Ba-Gowah Archaeological Park, where visitors walk through a 700-year-old Salado pueblo, climb ladders to second-story rooms, and see numerous artifacts. Besh-Ba-Gowah is home to the largest single site archaeological collections in the southwest.

Grand Canyon Railway – head north on I-17 to Flagstaff and west on I-40 to Williams (3 hours) to travel the historic rail line. Departing just steps from the awe-inspiring Grand Canyon, you’ll watch as the high desert turns to prairie to pine forest.

Jerome – head north on I-17 to Jerome, Arizona (2 hours) – once the fourth largest city in the Arizona Territory and a thriving mining camp in the late 1880s. Designated a National Historic District in 1967, Jerome is now a thriving artist community with a local winery, Jerome Winery.

Out of Africa Wildlife Park – head north on I-17 to Camp Verde (1 hour and 40 minutes) to this wildlife park set on over 100 acres of wilderness. With spacious habitats and hands-on interaction, the park is open year-round.

The Phoenix Zoo – take 101 south, then 202 west to Galvin Parkway to see the 125-acre Phoenix Zoo featuring over 1,300 animals from around the globe. Two unique experiences at this zoo include the Monkey Village and Stingray Bay.

Tempe Town Lake on the Rio Salado – adjacent to the Tempe Mill Avenue District, Tempe Town Lake (30 minutes) is a regional destination welcoming millions of visitors each year. Recognized as a top attraction, this town has boating, walking and biking tours, golf courses and fishing, along with a number of events in the Tempe Town Lake calendar each year.
